Cuba Marks International Mother Earth Day

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez today renewed the call to reverse irrational patterns of production and consumption that jeopardize human survival, in commemoration of International Mother Earth Day.

Taking to the social media platform X, the diplomat stated: "As a consequence of the ongoing environmental crisis, 10 million hectares of forest are lost annually, and hurricanes are becoming increasingly intense and devastating—disproportionately affecting Small Island Developing States (SIDS). Furthermore, approximately one million plant and animal species now face the threat of extinction."

"Climate change is a reality that major multinationals and industrialized nations attempt to overlook," he added.

The Foreign Minister also emphasized the urgent need for nations to honor international commitments, bridge the climate financing gap, and ensure the preservation of the planet.
