The young Cuban barwoman Kenia Borges Brotón won the championship of the first edition of the International Barlady Competition, in the National category, held on days 8 and 9 of this month in Athens, Greece.
According to information released by the Association of Bartenders of Cuba (ACC) in her Facebook page, Borges achieved that title that is being held for the first time and has the support of the International Bartenders Association (AIB). Bartenders from 15 European countries and Cuba participated in the contest, the only representation of Latinamerica.
The competition included two categories: Classic Cocktail -an original cocktail according to the list of products from sponsors -whiskeys and cognacs, among others- and National Cocktail -a cocktail original that includes a local element or inspiration from each representative country. The main objective of the AIB contest is for the event to be educational and bring together BarLadies from all over the world so that they have the opportunity to develop their skills and grow in the bartending field.
In addition to this, the competition served as a great stimulus for the contestants, as it coincided with the celebration of International Women's Day. Borges, who was accompanied at the contest by the president of the ACC Eddis Naranjo Castillo, is a worker at the Brisas bar of the Meliá Internacional Hotel in Varadero, main sun and beach destination in Cuba, and she has participated in numerous competitions in her specialty, among them the XIX Fabio Delgado in Memoriam National Cocktail Championship, held in Havana last year.
