Cuban Culture Celebrations begin today

The Cuban Culture celebrations begin on Thursday, and it will last until October 20 with a wide program of activities, dedicated this year to the 120th anniversary of the birth of writer Alejo Carpentier and to art instructors.

Havana will kick off these activities with the screening of the documentary Comunidad (Community). The film, a premiere by Cuba’s National Folkloric Ensemble.

The event will take place at 2:00 p.m. local time, with free admission, at the Yara movie theater, where this audiovisual film by director Claudio Peláez will be shown.

On October 11, children’s cantors will be presented in all the country’s schools to remember the legacy of musician and composer Joseíto Fernández (1908-1979) on the 45th anniversary of his death.

During the nationwide celebrations, activities will include concerts, book presentations, screenings of Cuban documentaries, as well as lectures by renowned intellectuals and artists.

According to Deputy Minister of Culture Lizette Martínez, the community will be the focal point for the day, with the nation’s main cultural institutions conducting their activities within this environment.

She also highlighted the role of art instructors, who have made such a great contribution to art education in schools throughout the country.
