Cuban sprinter Omara Durand sealed Cuba's performance at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games with a flourish, and her own sports career, this Saturday by winning the 200-meter dash, T12 category.
Durand and her guide Yuniol Kindelán clocked 23 seconds and 62 hundredths on the track at the Stade de France, to finish ahead of Venezuelan Alejandra Paola Pérez (24.19) and Indian Sharma Simran (24.75).
The Antillean thus reached three gold crowns in this event, as she had already won the 100 and 400 meters in her class (for athletes with visual disabilities) and reached a total of 11 titles in the Paralympics, together with other medalists for her country. Her record also includes 14 gold medals in World Championships and 12 in Parapan American Games, multi-sport events where she also leads her compatriots in the historical cumulative.
With this title, Cuba closed its performance in Paris 2024 with 10 medals: six gold, three silver and one bronze, currently in the 22nd place in the classification by country, since tomorrow no athlete from the largest of the Antilles will see action.
