The museological experiences of fortifications and a study of collections, will address the 3rd Workshop of the Cuban network of fortresses of the 16th-18th centuries (Cubafort), from June 11 to 13 in the Cuban city of Matanzas.
Bielka Cantillo, President of the organizing committee, informed Prensa Latina this Wednesday that the event will cover other issues such as the role of military engineers in the development of defensive systems, and experiences of conservation and restoration of these blocks. The thematic program will include historical, cultural-archaeological and monumental assessment of the fortress system; heritage management experiences; and cultural and military traditions as an expression of sustainable intangible heritage, she added. The debate of a dozen papers and a pannel on San Severino will complete the forum's agenda, which will include scientific activities and a tour of the walled defensive complex in Havana. 'Exchange, dialogue and analyze experiences and good practices about research, conservation and socialization of the work of the forts are purposes of the meetin,', said the expert, who is the director of heritage in the western province of Matanzas. Participants are historians, engineers, experts, archaeologists, architects, curators, restorers, academics, museologists, archive specialists, academics and other scholars on these issues.
