Cuban Gymnasts Conquer Four Medals in Portugal

Cuban gymnasts made a warning sign on their athletic shape face to the upcoming Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla, Colombia, after winning four medals in the World Cup in Guimaraes, Portugal, said Cuban sports wekkly JIT Monday.

Cuban athlete Manrique Larduet, World runner-up in Glasgow in 2015 and an Olympic finalist in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, headed the Cuban performance, by winning three gold medals, one of them in the vault horse, another in the parallel bars and another one in the rings.

His teammate, Randy Leru (Cuba) ended second in the horizontal bar, in a competition in which Hungarian David Vecsernyes won, just by 0,50 points of difference.

Larduet dominated the vault horse with 14,675 points, ahead of Jorge Vega (Guatemala, 14,575), a man that he will also see in the competition in the Central American Games, from July 19 to August 3.

In the parallel bars Larduet climbed to the top of the podium after receiving 15,100 points and leaving Romanian Andrei Vasile Munteun (14,600) and Swiss Henji Mboyo (14,350) behind him.

Larduet finished in 6th and 7th places in hands-free exercises and the pommel horse, in that order, and did not classify at the horizontal bar.

Carlos Gil, Cuban team head coach, said they are very happy with the results obtained.

Cuba will be at the regional event with complete teams in both sexes of artistic gymnastics, and will seek an important contribution of gold medals to contribute to the delegation's goal of maintaining the first place by countries.
