Cuban Judo Looking Forward to the Paris Grand Slam

Cuban Olympic champion from Cuba, Idalis Ortiz and world silver medalist Iván Silva lead the Cuban judo squads will participate in the Paris Grand Slam this weekend.

According to the Cuban News Agency, the main objective of the Caribbean delegation at the important Parisian event is to continue the preparation for the 2019 Pan Am Games in Lima and add points for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. With Yordanis Arencibia and Julio Alderete as heads of the technical collectives, the women's team is completed with Nahomys Acosta (52 kilograms), Maylín del Toro (63), Kaliema Antomarchi (78), while Osniel Solís (66), José Armenteros (100) and Andy Granda (over 100 kg) will be the members of the male team. According to the program announced on the website of the International Federation, there will be competition on Saturday in 48, 52, 57 and 63 kilograms for women, and 60, 66 and 73 for men. Later on Sunday, the action will be in the 70, 78 and over 78 kilos (female), and the 81, 90, 100 and more than 100 (men). The Cuban judo managed to be placed in the eighth place in the last World Championship, held in Baku, in September 2018. In that event, Ortiz and Silva achieved silver metals in their respective divisions of 78 and 90 kilograms.
