Celebrated as one of the best and most beautiful destinations in the Caribbean, Cuba offers so much more than its famous beaches. Discover a remarkable natural world boasting breathtaking landscapes, diverse plant and animal life, and a vast range of endemic species.

The country is home to numerous unique and stunning sites, including the Viñales Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage cultural landscape. Other standouts are the Biosphere Reserves of Sierra del Rosario and Guanahacabibes (Pinar del Río province); Zapata Swamp (Matanzas province); the Buena Vista area (Villa Clara and Sancti Spíritus provinces); Baconao (Santiago de Cuba province); and Cuchillas del Toa (Guantánamo province).

Many of these locales are becoming increasingly popular destinations for nature-based tourism.

Located in Cuba’s western Pinar del Río province, Viñales Valley is truly a gift of nature. With unforgettable views that captivate all who visit, the region is lush with greenery and old-world charm. It is one of the most renowned ecological areas on Earth, thanks to its stunning landscapes, rich flora and fauna, and the largest cave systems in both Cuba and the Antilles.

Another must-see destination is the Zapata Peninsula, a region that shelters one of Cuba’s most important ecosystems and the largest wetland reserve in the insular Caribbean. Its stunning scenery provides a habitat for unique plant and animal life.

Within the peninsula lies the Zapata Swamp, which was designated a Biosphere Reserve in 2000 and a Ramsar site in 2001. The area, which has been barely touched by humans, is a favorite among travelers who seek wonder through contemplation.

Nature's splendor is also in full display in central Cuba. Sancti Spíritus province is home to several of the nation's natural treasures, including Caguanes National Park, Banao, the Sierra del Escambray mountains, and Topes de Collantes. In neighboring Villa Clara province, travelers will find El Nicho and the Hanabanilla, one of the island’s largest artificial lakes.

The island’s natural beauty is not limited to land. The island is surrounded by an extensive coral reef teeming with colorful fish and marine species, making it a paradise for divers of all skill levels. The underwater world around Cuba also reveals ancient secrets in reefs, caves, canals, walls, tunnels, and shipwrecks from pirate ships and Spanish galleons, now amazing submerged museums.

Clearly, Cuba offers a surplus of natural delights to be savored. Its landscapes, sometimes baffling and often unparalleled, are complemented by its diverse flora and fauna, boasting species that can only be encountered in protected areas. Green from coast to coast, Cuba is a paradise with untold marvels. The key to understanding Cuba lies in mindful observation and appreciation, listening to its most legitimate and eloquent expression: its nature, brimming with enchantment.
