Cuban Olympic multi-champion maintains aspirations for Tokyo 2020

The Cuban wrestler Mijain Lopez keeps intact his aspirations to win his fourth Olympic gold medal at the Tokyo Games, as confirmed by the athlete himself to Jit magazine.

'The expectations are the same, I am staying focused, with high self-esteem and a positive mentality,' the Greco-Roman wrestling champion stated.

After resuming training with the national shortlisted teams in the city of Sancti Spiritus, in central Cuba, Lopez confessed that his greatest inspiration has been 'to respond to what is expected from me.'

Lopez was satisfied to start training for the Olympics after a year of so many inconveniences.

'Being gathered here is already a victory for our sport, after such a long time of undertaking the work individually, as an alternative due to the pandemic,' the wrestler said.

He added that 'now it is in our hands to make the most of this moment, which we need it to last, because at this point any other stoppage would be very hard, not only for me but for the youngest.'

He also praised the work of coaches and athletes, including those who contribute to their fitness, and considered it essential to maintain compliance with health protocols that allow the current stay to be extended.
