Cuba's Biopharmaceutical Industry Announces BioHabana 2026

The Cuban Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical and Medical Technology Industry Group (BioCubaFarma) today invited the global scientific and business community to participate in the III edition of BioHabana 2026, to be held in Varadero from May 18 to 22.

The Plaza América Convention Center, located in the famous Cuban resort, will host the event and serve as a space for building collaborative networks among scientists, opinion leaders, business executives, and entrepreneurs, the announcement highlights.

Improvements in healthcare require the interconnection of innovation ecosystems globally. The internationalization of R&D&I activity and the globalization of high-tech companies is a global trend in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and medical technology sectors, it underscores.

The event will continue the discussion initiated in previous editions, introduce new themes, and generate a high-level segment with leaders of biopharmaceutical companies to analyze current development trends in this industry globally, it notes.

The event will promote the parallel holding of bilateral meetings to discuss potential scientific or business collaborations, and the prior preparation of these exchanges will be encouraged, the text stresses.

BioHabana 2026 will organize symposia with keynote lectures, workshops, posters and/or oral presentations, on the following main themes: autoimmune diseases, innovation in business models for high-tech sectors, cancer immunotherapy, infectious diseases, and neurodegenerative diseases.

Also on chronic inflammation and aging, bioprocesses, design space, medical technology, artificial intelligence, agricultural biotechnology, academia-industry collaboration, and innovation management.

The program includes special sessions on: strategy and technologies for addressing new pandemics, regulatory agency workshop, launches of the business portfolio, the investment portfolio, and the 2026-2027 product catalog of BioCubaFarma, as well as a trade fair for the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and medical technology industry.

The announcement adds that there is a new revolution in the biological sciences in the 21st century, as a science of convergence with nanosciences and data science, which captures the complexity of biological systems.

Furthermore, the "One Health" concept teaches us the need for a holistic approach, which includes not only human health, but also food production and environmental protection.
