All artistic expressions will meet in the 24th edition of the Fiesta de la Cubania (Cubania Festival), to be held from October 17 to 20, to celebrate National Culture Day, according to its organizers.
As in every year, the event will be held in the municipality of Bayamo, in the eastern province of Granma, and the program includes around 230 activities. This edition is dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the beginning of the wars for independence in Cuba, a liberating feat that, in its early days, led to the rise of La Bayamesa, the theme composed and written by Perucho Figueredo and the National Anthem of the Caribbean country. Guests will be the Buena Fe group, the Ballet of Camagüey, the companies Moron Theatre and Rumbata, Eliades Ochoa and the Patria quartet, Pancho Amat and the Cabildo del son, the orchestras NG La Banda (The Band), Original del Manzanillo, El niño y la verdad ('The Child and the Truth'), and the group Moncada. Candido Fabre and his band and the vocal group Opera de la Calle will also join the festivities, which will also feature the participation of renowned comedians and historical actors from Cuban cinema. The provincial director of Culture of Granma, Yordan Roberto Leon, read in a press conference the call for the Cubania Festival in 2019, which will be dedicated to the bicentennial of Carlos Manuel de Cespedes, who is considered the Father of the Nation.
