Danzon, the comeback of Cuban national dance...

Havana just held the International Festival Danzon Habana 2017, an event that targets the rescue of Cuban national dance... Musician Jose Loyola wants to go beyond this circumstance and promote the daily practice of the musical and dance culture of this iconic genre.

"For us, not to perform shows for the sake of the show is essential, but every concert or dance encourage the daily practice of the culture of dance and danzon", said the PhD in musicology, flautist and orchestra director.

To do so, there are many stages where dancers gather to keep alive this movement, created back in 1879 by Miguel Failde, the Father of Danzon. Places like La Tropical's Salon Rosado Benny More and Paseo del Prado, where open cultural gatherings for danzon dancers take place every month.

This is no longer a money-maker genre, but still it's part of what Cubans are. That's why the musicians who fight to rescue it stay true to the format used by Failde when he premiered 'Las Alturas de Simpson', which is recognized as the first danzon, at the Lyceum of Matanzas.
