The 17th International Drum Party Festival Guillermo Barreto in Memoriam, to be carried out in Cuba next March 6-11, and will be dedicated to Brazil, the event director, Giraldo Piloto said.
Announced by the National Center of Popular Music, the meeting will be carried out in Havana with the key role of the main orchestras of island’s dancing popular music and Habana Compas Dances company.
The festival offers percussion and dance master classes, personalized lectures to groups or individuals, and visit to cultural places, among several activities.
As is customary in such events, jazz and folklore groupings will also be join in this party that this year will use as main stages the Teatro Mella (Mella movie theater); the Salon Rosado de la Tropical (Tropical Rosy Ballroom); the Hotel Palco; and Casa de la Musica de Plaza (Plaza music house), located in the Cultural Complex of the corner of 31 Ave. and 2 St., among others.
According to Piloto, still remain open the inscriptions to enter in three participation contests: percussion, casino dance, and rumba dancers.
In the percussion contest the musicians will be assessed according to the instrument: small drum or pailas, drums, congas drum or tumbadora, and batá drums.
Each competitor will be able to compete in two instruments and professional or academics requirements don't exist to participate.
The casino competition will be performed with genuinely Cuban music and the improvisation will be allowed inside the own style.
The festival director emphasized, in a press conference that the competitions are open to people of any age and nationality.
Besides several Brazilian and American musicians of renewed professional career, Piloto confirmed the participation of some of the most outstanding Cuban orchestras, Isaac Delgado, Alain Perez, Roberto Fonseca, Van Van, Alexander Abreu y Havana de Primera, El Niño y la Verdad, Climax, and Los Cuatro.
