Desierto (Desert), a film directed by Mexican Jonás Cuarón, won the Great Coral of the 37th International Festival of the New Latin American Cinema, the main award of the cinematographic party that every December rocks Havana.
Yet, the Brazilian film Aquarius was among the most distinguished in the event, winning the Signis Award, the Fripresci Award, and a Coral for legend Sonia Braga for the Best Female Performance.
Cuban filmmaker Fernando Pérez was granted the Jury's Special Award for &Uáltimos días en La Habana, which also got the prize for Best Soundtrack. The Cuban film Ya no es antes, of Lester Hamlet, was conferred the Public Award.
Under the slogan Mi rollo, mi película (My roll, my movie), the Festival exhibited over 400 films from Latin American, as well as a considerable amount from other countries of the world.
