Director general of the Cuban National Ballet (BNC), Viengsay Valdés, expressed gratitude to Catalonia, Spain for having awarded the 22nd Annual Prize of Stage Arts Critic 2019, for the quality and professionality of both works staged in the Tivoli Theater of Barcelona.
The laurel which Valdés considered a very high honor, was awarded the BNC in the category of classic dance and repertoire of its presentations of the Swan Lake and Cinderella in the mentioned theater, two significant Works among the ones staged usually by the Cuban company.
The director of the company recalled that the first tour of the group to Spain dates back to 1969, headed by the prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso and in 1971 the company was awarded with the gold medal of the Theater Lyceum of Barcelona.
Since then they have made 21 visits to Catalonia, said the first ballerina and stressed that the audience and dance professionals of that región have always held a very special place in the heart of all the members of the BNC.
Viengsay Valdés expressed her gratitude in the name of the company in a video which will be screened on June 8, which on this occasion will be online, instead of the usual gala due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
