Encouraging Forecast for Tourism Development in Cuba

Cuba will see a boom in tourism development due to the increase in visitor arrivals during the present year, which should reach five million.

In a press conference held at the hotel Tryp Habana Libre of the capital, on occasion of the 38th edition of the International Tourism Fair (FITCUBA 2018), the commercial director of the Cuban Ministry of Tourism (Mintur), Miguel Bernal, expressed confidence of reaching this year that number of visitors as, he added, we have it for certain.

At the close of last year, he added, the island registered four million 689 thousand 898 foreign visitors, the highest number in the history of tourism in the greater of the Antilles, for a growth rate of 16.2 percent, when in most world destinations the increase was 3.5 to four percent, indicating dynamism of this sector in Cuba.

Canada, he continued, is still the number one emitter of tourists to this destination, followed by Cuban-Americans, U.S. citizens, French, British, Italians, Spanish and Germans.

For his part, director of communications of Mintur, Janet Ayala, explained the wide program prepared for FITCUBA, which will have as venue the north central keys of Villa Clara and mentioned a special meeting of executives of the main Canadian tour operators and travel agencies with authorities of Cuban tourism, given the condition of Canada as the main emitter of tourists to this destination for years.

Attendants expected at FITCUBA 2018 are some three thousand professionals and a little over 140 specialized journalists.

This edition will have the slogan &promote Cuba as a tourism destination of peace, health and security".
