Tourism and its sustainable development is currently one of the fundamental concerns of the sector’s authorities in Cuba and the world as it constitutes a way of preserving human life and its quality.
Speaking at the Sustainable Tourism event held this Monday in Varadero, the Minister of Science, Technology and Environment of Cuba (CITMA), Elba Rosa Montoya, pointed out that the island is carrying out the "Life Task" program to face change climate based on the development of science and innovation.
Later, he added that mitigation actions are proposed, such as the development of bioclimatic architecture, the promotion of lighting with LED technology, tourist packages based on low-carbon products, the use of alternative and energy-efficient transport, as well as photovoltaic solar panels.
During this meeting, a prelude to the FITCUBA 2022 International Tourism Fair to start tomorrow in Plaza America, Varadero, several personalities and specialists linked to the environment spoke on different topics such as the maintenance, conservation and rehabilitation of beaches in Cuba, the energy efficiency and coral planting, among others.
For his part, the Minister of Tourism, Juan Carlos Garcia Granda, was in charge of closing this event, in which he highlighted the commitments that Cuba has in the development of sustainability within the sector. Likewise, this event, which was held at the Iberostar Selection Varadero hotel, served as a space for the delivery of recognition to several tourist accommodations for their commendable work in favor of environmental conservation, including the Melí Internacional, the Royalton Hicacos and the Segundo hotel Front.
Present at this important meeting were Rodolfo Sabonge, Secretary General of the Association of Caribbean States, Manuel Marrero, Prime Minister of Cuba, as well as other officials of the island's government, representatives of travel agencies, tour operators and the accredited national and foreign press.
