The organizers of the Gran Retto Cuba Open Water Crossing are finalizing details today to host the third edition of the event that will take place in the famous Varadero beach resort next weekend.
The general manager of the Los Delfines hotel, Sonia Bofill Sánchez, told Prensa Latina that she was very proud that the facility was chosen again to host part of the participants, who will compete in different distances in the warm surrounding waters. "We are doing everything possible to make them comfortable. It is our third experience, Gran Retto is our family," she added.
According to the Mexican company specialized in the organization of mass participation sporting events (Gran Retto), the attendance of more than 300 competitors representing nearly a dozen countries is expected. The event is sponsored by the Cuban Ministry of Tourism, Cubadeportes and the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (Inder), with the support of the agencies Havanatur S.A. and Taino Tours.
The official opening of the event is scheduled for next Friday, after a sports caravan along the main arteries of the resort, famous for the quality of its beaches. Swimmers, triathletes and fans will once again experience the maritime adventure on the Hicacos peninsula on Saturday and Sunday in order to promote the development of this tourist and sporting modality on the largest island in the Caribbean.
According to reports, competitions will be held at different distances (from 750 meters to 10 kilometers) and different age ranges will be taken into account for the awards, including a special category for people with disabilities.
