Originally from a humble neighborhood of Luyanó, in the Cuban capital, it can be affirmed that Yosvel Álvarez, known in the art world as Yosvel MC, was born with a pentagram "under his arm" because, since he opened his eyes to the world, music has shaped part of his life always listening to it everywhere.
“My beginning in music was at the age of seven… American music was always heard in my house. Also, at that time, there was a very strong Cuban Hip Hop movement in which my parents were involved. At that time, my brother was a rapper and had a group where he rehearsed, and I was always in the middle of rehearsals because the music caught my attention.
Although when I still did not know how to read or write, I already liked music, ”he said in an interview with this magazine. … ”That inspired in me a love for music, and over time I realized that it was something I loved more and more because it allowed me to express all my ideas and develop as an artist”, he added.
For this young rapper, music is “my tool to express myself and feel myself. It is part of my life and my day to day, it is like my way of living. It is a meditation, a sport, an energy. I am always creating or listening to music, it is very difficult for me to separate it from my being, ”he said.
“That love is a central theme in my project, like in the song Sientelo, when I say “music is my relief”. It's the only thing that makes me forget my problems. In my life she is reflected. It is my shadow, my path, it writes my destiny. Music always makes me feel good and helps me keep going,”he meant.
The also director of Malucansia Viva has participated in various recording projects with prominent Cuban artists, including the album "Revoluxion" with X Alfonso, which has given him various satisfactions and awards.
Later he announced that "at this moment, I am working on the production of my first solo album called “Todo en su momento”, where I will bring part of my musical history from Cuba with everyday themes of love, energy, party, and understanding."
Yosvel MC has performed with his group at multiple festivals and stages in the country, including the Eyeife International Electronic Music Festival, 13th Havana Biennial, HavanaWorldMusic International Festival, Peace&Love, Natur-Arte and at the International Jazz Festival.
“There is a lot of new music coming from La Malucansia and viewers will be able to feel the vibe of what we have been doing in the studio during the (COVID-19) quarantine. I hope people can connect with that energy and enjoy my music.
And lastly, I wish you to live life to the fullest, because it is unique, something my late mother always told me who continues to inspire me with her blessings from heaven," he concluded.
