The Catalan group Freixenet S.A. was the great winner of the XVIII International Wine Festival, recently concluded at the Hotel Nacional de Cuba, reaching six of the dozen awards awarded at the meeting. Freixenet, with three decades of operations in Cuba, won the first, third and fourth prizes in a blind tasting with: Marques de Cáceres Verdejo white wine, Marques de Cáceres winery; Red Wine Limited Edition Syrah, Viña Maipo Winery and Elissia Rosado Sparkling Wine, Freixenet winery, respectively. In the category of preferred wines, he obtained the second place with the Rosé Red Shield Jose Wine, Baron Phillipe de Rothschild wineries and the third with the Gaudin red wine, Marques de Cáceres winery. He also won the Best Stand Award. The second and fifth places corresponded in blind tastings to the wine Rosé Domine Vallon des Glauges, Ballon des glauges wineries, Top sport and the fortified wine Oporto Cabral, special reserve character, Cabral winery, Cabral Porto Douro, respectively. In the category of prizes of preference the first prize was for the white wine Dark Horse Chardonnay wineries Gallo, MG Cuba, the fourth for sparkling wine Extra Dry Millesimato, cellar Vald "Oca, Vald" Oca and the fifth for Wine sweet Angyal Tokaji 5 Puttonyos 2010, Siega Foods. In the pairing with Habanos 2017 the prize was awarded to the Red Wine Chianti Superiore Cottaccion 2013. In this XVIII edition of the International Wine Festival they participated representatives of 11 wineries from several countries including Spain, Chile, the United States, Italy, Portugal and Hungary, among others.
