Havana Club Reaffirms Its Commitment to the Environment

Havana Club International S.A. reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability and social responsibility with the development of a project to continue reducing its carbon footprint, following a successful first phase of this program in collaboration with Iberostar Cuba Hotels & Resorts through the use of ecoSPIRITS™ technology in the hotel chain's properties.

According to a press release from the rum company, this initiative is a pioneer for the Pernod Ricard Group and the first of its kind in the country, launched in January 2024. The agreed measure is based on the installation of an ecoPLANT™ plant, strategically located at the Havana Club distillery in San José, in the province of Mayabeque.

Its objective is to clean, disinfect, and refill Havana Club Original -Añejo 3 Años rum in the ecoTOTEs™ format, the reusable 4.5-liter containers (ecoTOTEs™) for transport to bars, instead of individual bottles, marking a significant shift toward sustainability in the production, distribution, and consumption methods of spirits.

This collaboration has demonstrated the clear commitment to significantly reduce carbon emissions, waste, energy consumption, and raw material use resulting from the production and transportation of single-use bottles for Havana Club and secondary packaging.

In 2024 alone, the project achieved a reduction of 10 tons of waste and 16 tons of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere. These important results, combined with the high production levels and growing demand from several clients to participate in the initiative, led Havana Club International S.A. to expand the project to other facilities managed by Iberostar, as well as to other hotel groups and five private clients located in Havana.

The circular project of Havana Club International S.A., in collaboration with Iberostar Cuba Hotels & Resorts and ecoSPIRITS™, continues to be an example of success and opens the doors and potential for partnerships toward a greener future.

Founded in November 1993 by Cuba Ron S.A. and the French group Pernod Ricard, Havana Club is the world leader in premium and super-premium rums. Since 1994, it has won 547 awards, 29 of which were won this year.

Havana Club is exported to more than 125 countries worldwide (excluding the U.S., where Cuban products are prohibited due to the trade embargo). For more information, visit the social media channel @HavanaClubCuba.
