Havana Colloquium on Latinos Developed in the United States

The IV Latin Colloquium International in the United States develops in Havana centered on core aspects of the dynamics social of this important sector of the population of the northern country.

The appointment hosted by Casa de las Americas takes place for three days and brings together renowned academics from several countries who visions and studies analyze the relations of this group around education, religion and the media.

It also deals with artistic creation, social movements and left, and the presence in the public sphere throughout the 20 conferences.

The researcher of Cuban origin, Ruben Rumbaut opened the colloquium with a conference related to the origins and destinations of that population in the northern nation, to which they continue during the the rest of the meeting were those of academics from Mexico, Rico, Colombia, Argentina, Cuba and the United States.

Also included in the forum are non-academic activities as the inauguration of the plastic arts exhibition Marking the time, of Nereida García Ferraz, and the presentation of a new number of the magazine Conjunto.

The books La will also be made available to the participants. La contrarevolution in Puerto Rico, and the case of Carlos Muñiz Varela; and Ana in four times, dedicated to the Cuban artist Ana Mendieta.

The population of Latin America is more than 57 million based in the United States, according to the results of a study published by Pew Research Center. The community stands out for its diversity of geographical origins, identities and processes of insertion in the migratory scenario, hence the importance of analysis, the specialists pointed out.

The colloquium was born from the Program of Studies on Latinos in the United States, created by Casa de las Américas in 2009, with which institution continues previous studies on the subject. (PL)
