The Cuban capital will be the epicenter of contemporary art starting next Friday, when the 15th Havana Biennial opens with the participation of just over 400 artists from numerous countries.
In a press conference held this Wednesday, Nelson Ramírez de Arellano, director of the Wifredo Lam Contemporary Art Center, organizer of the event, explained the broad program of the biennial, which will run until February 25 of next year.
Under the motto Shared Horizons, the event includes commemorative exhibitions, projects and actions of artistic research and exploration, special projects, as well as a theoretical meeting, where important topics related to contemporary art, the link between art and science and the experiences of art and pedagogy, among others, will be discussed.
A varied program of activities such as talks, workshops, concerts and musical performances are also planned to take place during the almost four months of the biennial. In addition to the main venues of the event, including the Wifredo Lam Cultural Center, the Visual Arts Development Center, the Fototeca de Cuba, La Casa de las Américas and the National Museum of Fine Arts, the biennial will also reach numerous neighborhoods and communities, which will make it possible for all art lovers to enjoy such a magnificent event.
Likewise, it is expected that, as in previous occasions, the biennial will include projects in other cities of the country, including Matanzas, Pinar del Rio and Holguín. Also present at the press conference were the director of the National Museum of Fine Arts and coordinator of the theoretical event of the biennial, Jorge Antonio Fernández Torres, Marialis Martínez, director of Communications of the biennial, other officials of cultural institutions of the country, as well as the national and foreign press accredited in Cuba.
