The 506th anniversary of the founding of the Villa de San Cristóbal de La Habana will be marked by an extensive cultural program engaging the entire city population. This was announced by organizers during a press conference held Monday at the Eusebio Leal House in the historic center.
During the conference, Magda Resic, Communications Director for the Office of the City Historian, explained that the celebrations will also honor the centenary of the Revolution’s historic leader, Fidel Castro. The theme, "Fidelity and Loyalty," reflects the profound friendship Castro shared with the late Havana historian, Eusebio Leal.
Organized by the Office of the Historian and the Provincial Government, the extensive program runs throughout the current month and features numerous theatrical and musical performances, art and photography exhibitions, conferences, and workshops.
Plans include the inauguration of a new theatrical venue within the Theater Festival, specifically aimed at young audiences. Children will enjoy various activities across the city, including the launch of the album "Fiñes," featuring songs by Abel Gerones and Alex Díaz, dedicated as a tribute to Eusebio Leal.
Other highlights include the 20th edition of Belgian Culture Week (November 5–14) and the inauguration on the 13th of the exhibition "100 Years of Art Deco: From Brussels to Havana." This exhibition features photography by Néstor Martí, illustrations by Enrique García Cabrera, comics by Alexander Izquierdo, and an architectural display curated by Gaspar Giersé.
The festivities will culminate on November 15 at 8 p.m. with the traditional vuelta a la ceiba (walk around the ceiba tree). Opening remarks will be delivered by Cuban poet and National Literature Prize winner Nancy Morejón, followed by a cultural gala featuring prominent national artistic ensembles.
The press conference was also attended by Perla Rosales, Deputy General Director of the Office of the Historian of Havana; Katia Cárdenas, Director of Cultural Management; Johanna Aedo, Director of Investments for the entity; and Rigoberto Mustelier, Program Coordinator for the Provincial Government.
