In a major milestone for Cuban children, the “Quinta de los Molinos” Botanical Garden in Havana is set to unveil the country’s first-ever inclusive playground—a barrier-free space designed for all children to enjoy together.
According to a recent update on the facility’s Facebook page, the new park has been envisioned as a truly universal space. Its design ensures that children who use wheelchairs and those who do not can share the same equipment and experiences without distinction.
“Imagine a place where laughter knows no boundaries. A space where a child in a wheelchair and their best friend can go down a slide together, creating memories that will last a lifetime,” the post shared.
Currently in the final stages of installation, the park is specifically engineered to ensure that physical disabilities are never an obstacle to fun. Featuring access ramps and adapted play equipment, the project stands as a testament to the fact that true inclusion is possible.
This initiative was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Office of the City Historian of Havana, the Extremadura Agency for International Development Cooperation (AEXCID), and the Assembly of Cooperation for Peace (ACPP).
We extend our deepest gratitude to these organizations for their dedication to such a meaningful project for the benefit of all Cuban children. Congratulations!
