If any entity deserves the title of “The Cuban Specialist” it is, without a doubt, Havanatur, which has been working efficiently for 46 years in the promotion and marketing of this destination and whose goals include continuing its work aimed at promoting international tourism on the island.
Much has happened since December 19, 1978, when the group was created, until now and its commitment to work for the development of the so-called leisure industry, continues as vital as the first day, especially at this time when the island needs an unquestionable recovery of the sector to contribute to the improvement of the national economy.
It is important to remember that in the 1950s of the last century, tourism in the country was not a significant economic sector. On the contrary, the balance of the sector decreased, because those who could do tourism in Cuba preferred to do so outside the Island.
From 1959, this situation worsened, due to the confrontations with the USA and the nascent Cuban State had, as a primary aspiration, to give priority to national tourism. It was then that several development plans and institutions were created for the promotion of national tourism and from 1973, the idea of expanding international tourism was had, favored by the existence of better internal and external conditions for its development.
On December 19, 1978, Havanatur was established, a small company in its beginning, but with great tasks and efforts that also emerged as a fair and humanitarian initiative of the Commander in Chief, Fidel Castro Ruz. Today, the International Group of Tour Operators and Travel Agencies Havanatur S.A. is a leader in the sector in the country and thanks to the efficient work of its more than a thousand specialists and branches in America, Europe and the Caribbean it has achieved a top position.
Currently, Havanatur works tirelessly to attract a greater number of clients with a view to increasing income, given the need to promote the sector, the second largest in the national economy, which is why it is focusing above all on strengthening the MICE sector in order together with other institutions related to this specialty, to turn the largest of the Antilles into a preferred destination in the region for this segment.
I send big congratulations to all the Havanatur workers for this anniversary and the wishes of continuing to reap many successes!
