The seashell, a gastropod mollusk with a soft body and diverse species, inhabits oceans, rivers, and lands alike, carrying profound symbolism. Its spiral form expresses humanity’s intuitive spiritual union and reconnection with the universe; it symbolizes movement, the vibration of the soul, and the spirit in creation and ascension.
Perhaps moved by this mystique, in the 1940s, Ramiro Murillo decided to adorn the walls of his home in Playa Girón, south of Matanzas, with seashells and marine stones. It was an offering of faith to the Virgin of Charity, a gesture of gratitude for his recovery after a serious illness.
Over time, the dwelling became a site of pilgrimage and community gathering, standing as a testament to faith and perseverance. Although the passage of years and acts of vandalism have caused some deterioration to the property, the house still retains the unique beauty of its walls. This amalgamation of stones and seashells still grants it a singular and unrepeatable signature today.
This emblematic location marks the beginning of the "Route of Energy," a tour within the local development project Guamacaro’s Tour. Through its excursions, the project promotes a philosophy of respect for life and the preservation of memory—an endeavor to safeguard local landscapes, traditions, and stories as an essential act of identity and sense of belonging.
