Gibara it's not only famous for the International Film Festival held there... The 200 years old "White Village of Crabs" is an emerging destination promoted by tour-operators and travel agencies as one of Cuba's latest rising tourist destination.
As a matter of facts, the Spanish group Iberostar has decided to operate all the hotels in this attractive and promising destination, located on the northern coast of Holguín province. Iberostar projects to have up to 800 rooms ready and is confident that the destination, with nautical options such as a catamaran sails will prove attractive to the circuit-tour market.
Founded in 1817 and once a leading commercial port in eastern Cuba, Gibara lives a revival with new hotels such as Ordoño, Arsenita and Plaza Colón. The Iberostar company has a 25 year track record in Cuba and presently operates 17 hotels in Havana, Varadero, Trinidad, Cayo Coco, Cayo Largo del Sur, Cayo Santa María, Cayo Guillermo and Holguín, with a total of 6,500 rooms.
