Under the name of Ron Vigía S.A. The first joint venture with foreign capital, involving the AZCUBA sugar group, was created in Havana for the production and export of this spirit.
The new entity is the result of the alliance between the holder of AZCUBA shares, Zerus, and the Spanish company Island Rum Brands S.L. with a validity of 30 years and capital 50-50.
As stated by Enrique Arias Jorge, president of the new company, one of the fundamental purposes of the entity is to increase the prestige and value of the rum that is made in the Island, as well as making other brands more visible than those known.
The production of Ron Vigía S.A. is planned to be carried out at the Enrique Varona sugar factory, in the central province of Ciego de &Aávila, and to begin its elaboration as of next November.
According to specialists, this rum is made on the basis of sugar cane honeys and the aging process is achieved in selected white oak barrels, with a unique bouquet and presence for the most demanding tastes.
The name of this rum originates from the residence of Ernest Hemingway, in San Francisco de Paula, Havana and its label has the emblem of the well-known American writer, Nobel Prize in Literature (1954), who lived a large part of his life on the Island and was a great fan, admirer of Cuban rum.
