The event, which will take place from December 2 to 6 in Havana's International Conference Center, has as its central themes social change and the search for innovative agendas in communication for development. Referring to the importance of this edition of ICOM, the dean of the Faculty of Communication of Havana, Hilda Saladrigas, said that the meeting will be an opportunity for the consolidation of this professional and academic field in Cuba and Latin America. Over four days, prestigious academics will offer keynote lectures and workshops on contributions to electronic government, technological mediation in educational processes for development, and information and technology gaps from the political economy of communication and culture. Among the guests invited are Spanish professor Manuel Castells; University of São Paulo professor Sueli Mara Soares Pinto; and pedagogue at the School of Archivistics, Library and Information Sciences of the University of British Columbia, Luciana Duranti.
