International Poetry Festival Announced in Cuba

The CubaPoesía Cultural Center, with the sponsorship of the Ministry of Culture, is calling for the 31st International Poetry Festival of Havana and its Virtual Poetry Meeting, from May 26 to 31, 2025.

The event is dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the death in combat of the Cuban poet and national hero José Martí, and with the Honorary Presidency of the Cuban poet Nancy Morejón, National Literature Prize winner, will include the Meeting of Poets in Defense of Humanity.

The coordinator of the event is the poet Karel Leyva Ferrer, and according to the call, humanity is living dark moments, a breakdown of the values treasured by civilization in the imminence of a nuclear war in which life on earth may disappear. It is a time when poetry and poets must raise their voices in defense of life and the beauty that has accompanied the evolution of the human race, the text highlights.

It also indicates that the authors invited to the virtual Poetic Rally in Havana must previously send their video recordings, which will be received (in English or Spanish), on the website festivaldepoesiadelahabana.com until April 21, 2025. Likewise, the videos will be six minutes long for the poetry readings and 20 minutes for the interventions in the reflection forums.

Poetry lovers will be able to follow the festival sessions in real time through the Facebook pages, the YouTube channel of the Virtual Poetic Rally and the Streaming Cuba channel of the Ministry of Culture.
