The Fernando Alonso National Ballet School officially launched the call this Monday for the Grand Prix Havana 2026, an international competition set to take place in the Cuban capital from July 13 to 19.
According to Dani Hernández, the institution's director, the event aims to gather talent from around the world to foster artistic excellence, cultural exchange, and the professional growth of emerging generations of dancers.
The gathering carries forward the legacy of competitive events held in Cuba over several decades under the mentorship of Alicia Alonso, Fernando Alonso, and Ramona de Sáa, among other foundational masters of the Cuban Ballet School. This edition continues that tradition with the goal of developing new talent with a global perspective.
Per the official announcement, dancers of all nationalities between the ages of 9 and 20 are eligible to register until June 7.
The competition categories are divided into: Beginners, Mini, Children, Junior, and Advanced. The required repertoire includes Variations and Pas de Deux from traditional classical works—as specified in the event’s official guidelines—as well as a contemporary piece of the performer's choice.
Complete details regarding the event can be found on the social media platforms of the Fernando Alonso National Ballet School. The institution also announced that it will soon reveal the members of the international jury, along with further information on prizes, which will include scholarships, internships, and intensive training programs in various countries.
