March 8, International Women's Day, has been a beautiful day for the women of the Antillean island for a long time, fundamentally dedicated to celebrating their achievements and achievements, although in recent years more emphasis has been placed on what is still to be achieved in goals and in the hunt for lags such as machismo.
It is true, the Cuban working woman earns the same salary, in any position, as her male counterpart, she can choose the profession or trade she wants, if she puts all her efforts, and there are laws that protect motherhood and family and many more benefits, but it is also true that a patriarchal mentality such as the one that was hegemonic in this part of the world until the middle of the 20th century, cannot be changed in one swoop or by decree.
That is why Cuban women of these times are immerse and especially more on their International Day in the discussions and in deeper knowledge of the proposal of the Family Code, much more modern and inclusive that will support the present and future of women, always eager to march alongside man, as companions, it is emphasized, and not as opposing entities.
Many things began to change for Cuban women and their families since the second half of the 20th century, with the revolutionary measures that marked a before and after and, according to many, literally removed women from the confines of domestic tasks, to make a new life and be free.
The answer of those predecessors of today's women was yes and that is why women are today a majority force in the world of public health, in which they perform outstanding tasks and education, also in sciences, in which stand out for their outstanding contribution and dedication to service.
They are faithful followers of many patriots raised in the jungle, dedicated to wars of independence and for social justice. Also, of the feminists who at the beginning of the 20th century achieved the approval of the Law of Divorce and Women's Suffrage, after enormous struggles.
But they want more, sheltered in today's achievements. There are no doubts, Cuban women live their time.
