Guitarists of different nations will gather in the Cuba’s capital in the IV Meeting of Identities Guitars that will be dedicated to the birthday 70 of the renewed musician and Cuban composer Sergio Vitier, the organizers announced.
In the event that will take place in the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba in January 24 - 27, and in Havana in January 29 till February 4, young talents and prestigious masters of this instrument coming from Mexico, the United States, Honduras, Italy, Switzerland and Cuba will participate.
Outstanding guitar performers will be present in this meeting, among them Italia’s Antonio Forcione and Elena Zucchini, and the orchestras of the Conservatoire Esteban Salas and Havanan Sonantas, for just to mention some of the participants.
The event’s program will embrace concerts, talks and lectures in which the organizers plan the participation of students and professionals of the most diverse guitar’s genres and styles, and similar instruments as the tres (three-stringed guitar), the lute and the cuatro (four-stringed guitar).
The Minor Basilica of San Francisco de Asis’s Convent, the Alba Cultural House, the Cuba National Union of Writers and Artists, the Auditorium of the National Fine Arts Museum and the Spanish-American Culture Center located in the Cuban capital, among others, will act as the main hosts of the meeting.
The president of the event professor Guido Lopez-Gavilan pointed out in press conference that the event emphasizes the national and foreign participants’ identity, quality that lent the occasion an air of particular importance, he said.
Identities 2018 is organized by the Musicians’ Association of the Cuba National Union of Writers and Artists (UNEAC) and it has with the artistic directing of the guitarists Eduardo and Galy Martín.
