Reputed to be among the most splendid institutions of its kind in the country, the Museum of Decorative Arts of the Central province of Villa Clara treasures a wealth close to five thousand pieces that capture the attention of visitors.
Managed by an experienced team of workers, it was inaugurated on December 4, 1987 in a very central location in Santa Clara, close to the cosmopolitan Leoncio Vidal Park, in the heart of an active city that promotes intense cultural life. In addition to focusing on exhibition services, it meets systematically programs of activities such as conferences, exhibitions, improvement events, workshops, presentations of pieces, among other initiatives.
Also known by the name of MAD, by its acronym, its collective stands out for the quality of the investigative work they undertake and the way they have managed to radiate activities towards the community of extension. So universities, schools and even workplace have received the benefits of such a laudable task. Emphasizing the beauty and authenticity of the goods of the national heritage, of high artistic value, the museum leaves a mark very deep in all those who come to its installation. One of its most notable samples is the one called “Treasures of the town”, made up of pieces given to the Commander in Chief, Fidel Castro, on his visits abroad and, likewise, a collection of textiles, belonging to José Francisco Martí, only son of the National Hero José Martí.
Pride of the city of Santa Clara, the MAD is an installation that today is a reference for culture and the love for the beauty of this land.
