The centennial of Cuban music scholar Argeliers León will be marked by the 16th edition of the Musicology Award given by Casa de las Americas, to be held in Havana from March 12 thru 16, announced organizers.
The event will include a wide program of debates, concerts and book and magazines presentation and the jury is formed by renowned musicologists of Colombia, Mexico, Spain, Chile and Cuba.
As part of the prize’s activities, researchers of 14 countries will attend the 10th International Colloquium of tjhe specialty.
Experts in the matter participate in round tables on the Historical and Documental Heritage of Music; musicology, musical formation and knowledge management; the role of neuroscience in musical formation; and theory and critic of Latin American musical historiography.
Other approaches will be discussed at the colloquium as a precedent of the awarding ceremony, among tjhem, tjhat related to the musicological research of archives and collections, and its perspectives in the contemporary world.
The antique music group Ars Longa will be among the artists invited and offer a concert in its usual see of the San Francisco de Paula church, located in the Cuban capital’s Avenida del Puerto.
The prize awarded by the prestigious Cuban institution was founded by national musicologist and composer Argeliers Leon (1918-1991) and since 1975 this recognition contributes to the development of musical culture of Latin America and the Caribbean.
