Operation Walk Returns to Cuba with New Joint Surgeries

Approximately 70 people are set to benefit from the return of Operation Walk to Cuba, an international humanitarian organization that provides free surgeries to patients with joint conditions, thereby restoring their quality of life, as reported by the Ministry of Public Health (Minsap).

From October 31st to November 5th, Havana's 'Fructuoso Rodríguez' Teaching Orthopedic Hospital is hosting a team of distinguished international specialists. They are performing live orthopedic surgeries and sharing knowledge through master classes, fostering an environment of professional exchange and solidarity.

Supported by the local medical community and the commitment of the prestigious Orthopedic Hospital, led by Dr. Roberto Balmaseda, this initiative has transformed the lives of hundreds of patients over the years, reaffirming the crucial role of international cooperation in healthcare, the Cuban Ministry of Public Health (Minsap) stated.

Operation Walk is a volunteer medical-humanitarian organization that offers life-transforming mobility restoration through joint replacement surgeries, provided at no cost to those in need in the United States and worldwide.

During each international surgical mission, Operation Walk trains local orthopedic surgeons, nurses, physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals on the most advanced treatments and surgical techniques for hip and knee joint diseases.

This creates a lasting contribution to medical care in developing countries, and to date, it has served over 17,000 patients from 25 countries.

"This fall, we return to where our story began," the organization states on its website.

Over the past 29 years, Operation Walk has performed more than 500 joint replacements in Cuba, transforming lives and restoring mobility to patients who otherwise would not have had access to this care.

"We are honored to continue working alongside our long-standing partner, Dr. Roberto Balmaseda, and the incredible team at 'Fructuoso Rodríguez' Orthopedic Hospital. This mission represents not just a return, but our commitment to continuous care, collaboration, and compassion," the experts affirmed.
