Percussion Festival Opened its 17th Edition in Havana

The 17th Fiesta del Tambor opened in Havana with the performance of the most famous Cuban percussionists and renowned foreign musicians, who turned the Mella Theater into a real musical paradise.

The night was filled with the audience’s applause, who enjoyed very much the performances of Giraldo Piloto and the group Klimax, Samuel Formell, director of the legendary Los Van Van orchestra and Rodney Barreto, instrumentist of the group directed by maestro Jesus &Chucho" Valdes.

The Mella stage also had the performance of Jim Riley (USA), the Peje and young musicians and Pupy y los que Son Son, among others.

With this concert, which recognized the support to this Festival by the firm &Sabian, Kosa Cuba" and the magazine Cubaplus (both based in Canada), began a very active week as percussion music is concerned, because besides the musicians presentation, the event includes master classes, percussion and dance contests.

The Fiesta del tambor this year is dedicated to Brazil and will close this edition next Sunday 11 with the performance of important Cuban groups in the Salon Rosado de la Tropical music hall, among them Isaac Delgado and his group and Alexander Abreu and Habana de Primera.
