Photography is an extremely important testimony to prove a certain fact or to preserve memories. And throughout time, since its discovery in 1839, when Louis Daguerre presented his latest invention to the French Academy of Sciences: the daguerreotype, it has been a fundamental element in people's lives.
From then on, the development of the art of light began, as it is also called, because at that time the patent for the daguerreotype was released, giving rise to the development of photography.
Much has happened since then, which has led to the evolution of the technology that allows the capture of images, to the point that anyone with just a mobile phone can take snapshots anywhere and at any time that, sometimes, are of great transcendence due to certain events. However, nowadays you have to be very careful because sometimes images are altered with certain applications to prove facts but, fortunately, specialists in this field are able to detect when an image is false.
Let's go back to what concerns us, the celebration of World Photography Day which has been celebrated since 2007, at the request of the Australian photographer, Korske Ara, when he organized a contest where anyone could participate and whose proceeds were destined to an organization for children's medical care. In the first year the contest had the participation of 250 people and 10 years later, it became so popular that around 500 million people showed up.
Nowadays, with the emergence of digital cameras, mobile phones, tablet photography has expanded to such an extent that even children take pictures. However, its background remains the same: to show life, tell stories, and bear witness to the most important events that happen in the world.
Today, World Photography Day, we must take into account, above all, the professionals of that art who, without sparing time or danger, dedicate their lives to reflecting what happens in the world today and keep us informed of everything that happens in any place, no matter how remote. Many congratulations to all the artists of the lens, especially the Cubans and, above all, to those who work and/or collaborate for our magazine in favor of promoting Cuban tourism.
