Pinares de Mayarí is the ideal place to spend a vacation in contact with nature in a clean-air forest and among memorable landscapes.
Located about 100 kilometers from the northeastern city of Holguín, it is part of the Sierra de Nipe and rises to more than 700 meters above sea level, in a wooded area dominated by an indigenous tree species, the Cuban pine (Pinuscubensis), which gives its name to the region.
Unlike its distant cousins from temperate areas, the beautiful Cuban pine, which can reach a slender height of up to 30 meters, expands like a butterfly in an open cup, whose fabric shines through the sky like a seductive green lace.
Plants such as the so-called jasmine of the pine forest, a botanical jewel, also grow and perfume the environment there, just like the pine trees, but not only are those Creole pine forests. The vegetation is also made up of charrascals and mesophilic evergreen forests, with a high percentage of endemism.
In this enclave, spread out on what is known as the Mayarí Plateau, the average annual temperature ranges between 18 and 22 degrees Celsius and there are abundant springs of very clear water that come down from the charming Sierra Cristal, another fascinating point of reference in the area.
Ecology connoisseurs affirm that the main treasure of Pinares de Mayarí is the birds, since the area is home to more than 90 species, of which 21 are counted as Cuban. Only observation is allowed.
La Mensura Park, of great topographical value and, due to its biodiversity, part of Pinares de Mayarí and the famous El Guayabo waterfall is one of its main attractions. The hill of La Mensura, with 995 meters of altitude, is the highest point in the area and is also a relief that attracts for the practice of mountaineering.
Both hiking and excursions to interesting sites are added to mountaineering. A comfortable tourist village located there offers its visitors an excellent lodging service, in addition to entertainment with music and dances at night. Guaranteed fun and enjoyment.
