Postponed presentation of the Batuta Award in Cuba

The award ceremony of the Batuta Award, the Grammy's counterpart for classical and concert music, was postponed until December 4 of this year, due to the epidemiological situation caused by Covid-19 in the world.

A press release by the organizers adds this gala was originally to be held at the Teatro Martí in Havana last November and had been transferred to April 24 of this year for the same reason. We hope that the new date will be the definitive one to honor in this Caribbean edition, the coveted gold batons that will be delivered, in memory of the composer Carlos Fariñas, to Cuban masters Frank Fernández, Zenaida Romeu, Enrique Pérez Mesa, Digna Guerra, Guido López-Gavilán, Ulises Aquino, Niurka González and Ulises Hernández Morgadanes, adds the information.

Likewise, during the ceremony, Roberto Valera, Juan Piñera Infante, Alfredo Diez Nieto and Idelfonso Acosta will be awarded, with the award to contributors to classical music, that Leo Brouwer and Edesio Alejandro received in 2019, along with Plácido Domingo and Michael Nyman.

Plaques of recognition will also be conferred this award to the National Symphonic Orchestra, the National Choir of Cuba, the CMBF Radio Station, the Lyceum Mozartiano, the University of the Arts, the National Concert Band, the National School of Arts, the Cuban Institute of Music and the National Ballet of Cuba.

The Baton Award for excellence in classical music is a recognition given to great masters and broadcasters, promoters, patrons and music lovers of the genre for their contributions. The president of the Latin Institute of Music (ILM), Daniel Martin Subiaut, has also led the Batuta Award International Organization since 2019, which is directed in the Caribbean by Maestro Edesio Alejandro, 2020 National Music Award.
