Refreshing Cuban cocktails

If there is a segment of the Cuban bar that is not at all improvised and with a seductive tradition, it is its cocktail bar, that combines the national rum in all its variants with other components, to deliver to the client a kind of magic potion that will lead to pleasure and communication in a calm and healthy way.

Cuban cocktails such as the famous Cuba libre, Daiquirí, Mojito, Havana Special, Mulata, Saóco have gone around the world, but experts say there are hundreds of delicious formulas obtained from the national fluid spirit, prepared by bartenders who have come to acquire great expertise and even mastery in this art that can even become an interesting spectacle when it happens before your eyes.

Journalist Fernando G. Campoamor, a specialist in ethnology and cultural issues in general, used to affirm that the cocktail is a stimulant of human cordiality, as long as you learn to drink it, just as you learn to eat and dress correctly. And he added that promoting the habit of taking it in moderation could be considered as a variant of education and even culture.

Of course, without excesses or vices, he recommended him. It is believed that the first cocktails were known in the country from the 60s and 70s of the 19th century, when gin, rum, cognac and vermouth were already mixed with seltzer water and sugar.

Albert Stevens, an expert on the subject of the famous Astor Astoria hotel in New York, wrote in 1935: "During the last few years many North American tourists discovered in Havana that their ideas regarding the preparation of cocktails were very limited."

In other words, they learned cocktails here... Well yes, friends, the expertise of Cuban bartenders did not stop in the 1930s, as it is known. The art of mixing rum and other good liquors, with lemons, oranges, other juices, grenadine, Angostura bitters... and so on and so forth, shows infinite variations in the largest of the Antilles, aimed at making you have a good time, socializing or loving.
