Researchers Worldwide Present at Technology Convention in Cuba

Some 1500 researchers and specialists from all latitudes will take part in the International Science, Technology and Innovation Convention which will open in the Cuban capital next Monday, announced organizers.

  Under the slogan Innovation for Sustainable Development, the convention expects to gather some 1200 Cuban delegates and another 200 from 39 countries, among them China, Vietnam and Russia, as the most represented, told Prensa Latina Maria Luisa Zamora, member of the organizing committee.    One of the venue’s objectives which comprises 10 parallel events, is to boost analysis of advances and achievements made in research and innovation in several theme áreas, she explained.

   The forum will have for the first time a workshop on nanoscience, specialty that presented a national program for its strengthening as essential pillar for the economic and social development of the island.    Synthesis, purification, characterization and how nanostructures opérate, their applications in the economy and society, are among the topics open to discussion in this regard.

  The Convention program which will extend to the 9th of March, will approach the financing of science and the role of youths and women in the creative activity, said Zamora.    Other topics will be discussed such as information technologies and communications, local development and design, renewable energy sources, biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry as well as climate change, she said.

  An expo fair will operate in parallel, where the main scientific and technological results of national and foreign enterprises will be shown, she added.

  Organized by the Ministry of Science, Technology and the Environment and the Agency of Nuclear Energy and Advanced Technologies of that entity, the venue will be held at the Convention Center, west of this capital.
