Gran Retto, a highly anticipated swimming competition among open water enthusiasts, will once again take place in the Cuban resort of Varadero on September 13th and 14th of this year. The event is expected to draw around 600 competitors from Mexico, Ecuador, Guatemala, Germany, and Cuba.
The announcement, released in a press statement by the event's official tour operator, the International Group of Tour Operators and Travel Agencies Havanatur S.A., cites information from the Marketing Director of Cubadeportes, Ediunys Carrazana. He stated that the competitions will include distances of 750 and 1500 meters, as well as three, five, and ten kilometers, as in previous editions. Each category will be divided by age and gender.
Organizers have also confirmed that medical first aid assistance will be available to ensure the safety of the competitors.
Starting early on the 12th, bibs and competitor kits will be distributed, and last-minute registrations will be accepted at the Arenas Blancas hotel for those interested in participating. In the afternoon, organizers will hold a press conference prior to the event.
On the 13th, in addition to the competitions and awards ceremonies for the 750-meter, 1500-meter, and three-kilometer distances, a popular recreational festival and the highly anticipated "Beer Mile" race will take place in the afternoon. The morning of the 14th is reserved for the most challenging distances, awards ceremonies, and the closing event.
According to Gran Retto, swimming on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world is an incredible experience, a premise that serves as an incentive to attract competitors from various nations, as in previous editions.
This is the fourth edition of the competition, sponsored by the Cuban Ministry of Tourism, Cubadeportes, the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER), and the International Group of Tour Operators and Travel Agencies Havanatur S.A.
