Salsa Festival opens in Cuba

The 9th edition of the Salsa Festival in Cuba opens on Wednesday with a live concert by the popular orchestra Adalberto Alvarez y su Son, at the Memories Miramar Hotel in Havana.

With the participation of the country’s leading popular dance music orchestras and foreign guests,  the event includes dance workshops, DJ performances, a tour of the Old Havana district, after- party sessions, and concerts.

The Festival’s main venue is the Jose Antonio Echeverria recreational complex’s Club 500 in the Havana neighborhood of Vedado.

Maykel Blanco, the event’s founder and president, told reporters that this edition will be as good as the previous ones, despite the complex economic situation of the Caribbean nation.

In addition to Adalberto Álvarez y su Son, other bands such as Septeto Santiaguero, Eduardo Sandoval, Manolito Simonet y Su Trabuco, Issac Delgado, Alexander Abreu y Havana D’Primera,  Haila Maria Mompie, Manolin “El Médico de la Salsa,” and Los Van Van orchestra, will also participate.

Pedrito Martinez, Brunella Torpoco, Yan Collazo, and Belén Gal will come from the United States, Peru, Puerto Rico, and Argentina, respectively.

This year’s edition includes an exchange of knowledge in the communities of the Cuban capital and with students artistic education.

The Festival’s artistic director Edith Massola informed that four concerts will be held each day, as well as meetings with DJs, dancers, and the public in general, who thank the holding of one of the leading events dedicated to Cuban popular music.
