Salsa lovers are delighted in the Cuban capital with the start this Wednesday of the seventh edition of the festival of this musical genre that will invade numerous Havana venues until the 26th.
The event, whose main venue is Club 500, located in the Havana neighborhood of El Vedado, includes a varied program of activities including dance workshops, DJ presentations, a tour of Old Havana, after-hours sessions.party at the Casa de la Música de Miramar and, of course, the concerts of the most renowned salsa groups, as announced by organizers.
The dance workshops will be in charge of the dancers MaykelFonts and JennyseltGalata, while in the carnival shows and night concerts the American percussionists of Latin origin Roberto "Bobby" Allende and Marc Quiñones, who were part of the great salsa bands, will perform as guests like Rubén Blades, Willie Colón and Marc Anthony.
As guests, the performance of the French DJs Jack El Calvo and Patricia La Peruana, Italian Andrea Androger, the Peruvian Cato Tumba DJ, together with the Cuban Javier Dj Miramar and the photographer Nathanel Mergui are also expected.Among the musicians and groups from the country that will perform during the five days of the festival are: Los Van Van, Pupy and those who are Son, Alexander Abreu and Havana D'Primera, Maykel Blanco and his Salsa Mayor, Paulo FG and his Elite, IsaacDelgado, Lazarito Valdés and Bamboleo, Elito Revé and his Charangón, NG La Banda, Manolito Simonet and his Trabuco, Adalberto &Aálvarez and his Son and Anacaona.El Niño y la Verdad, and El Noro and Primera Clase, Yasser Ramos and his Tumbao, Monika Mesa and Cristian y Rey will also perform.
The Salsa Festival, created at the initiative of the Cuban musician Maykel Blanco, will open its doors in the Red Room of the NH Capri Hotel and is sponsored by the cultural tourism agency Paradiso and the artistic promotion company Artex.
The participation of more than two hundred dancers and spectators is expected, especially from the United States, France, Colombia, Italy, Panama, Peru and Spain. This year, according to information disclosed by organizers, the Festival de la Salsa Award will be granted, by a prestigious jury made up of, among others, actress and cultural promoter Edith Massola, artistic director of the event; the maestro Tomás Alfonso, the musicologist Cary Diez and the singer Mayito Rivera.
