Artists from Cuba and the other six countries meet in this city during the XIII Mural Painting International Meeting, InterUs, that will be carry out up to January 27.
In statements to Latin Press, Israel Tamayo, director of the cultural workshop Luis Diaz which sponsors the event, praised the dedication to the 60 years of the Cuban Revolution triumph and the 42 of that institution, with a remarkable summon outside the island since will include artists from Dominican Republic and Spain.
Tamayo thanked the collaboration of the City Conservation Office (OCC), the Cuba National Union of Writers and Artists, the Caguayo Foundation and the Musical Recordings and Editions Company (EGREM), accomplices all of them in this new effort to go on providing to the city of these pictorial pieces.
The painter informed that will be seven the murals to be added to the 117 current existing in the urban surroundings and they will be located in the own OCC, in an elementary school, in the EGREM head office and in the Plastic Arts Academy, among other spaces that will favor the popular scope of these proposals.
The lecture gave by the Salvadoran creators Isaias Mata and Lucila Gonzalez about the state of the mural painting in Latin America and the United States was one of the theoretical opportunities stood out by Tamayo who extolled the vast experience of both as creators and as professors.
Among the legacy left by the event, started in 1993 in this city, the director of the Cultural Workshop highlighted the gigantic mural located in the East University’s front wall, became visual icon of the urban fabric.
He considered a gift to the village founded 502 years ago this plastic atmosphere which is appreciated in the apartment buildings’ sides, parks and squares, streets and avenues’ walls and in a lot of educational, social and cultural institutions that turn this way a sort of spontaneous gallery for natives and visitors.
Artists from El Salvador, Chile, Germany, the United States, Bolivia and Denmark participate in the event.
