Santiago de Cuba Prepares for its Caribbean Festival Extravaganza

The city of Santiago de Cuba is making final preparations for the 44th Caribbean Festival, a week-long celebration that will infuse the eastern Cuban city with music, color, and dance from July 3rd to 9th.

The city will once again transform into a vibrant hub of Caribbean culture, hosting its traditional Fiesta del Fuego, a festival that showcases popular traditions from across Cuba and the wider Caribbean region.

Organized by the Casa del Caribe in Santiago de Cuba, this year's landmark event will feature Curaçao as the honored guest country. It promises to bring together artists, intellectuals, and communities from the region for an immersive experience of music, dance, time-honored traditions, and enriching cultural exchange.

Aisha Gijsbertha-Leer, coordinator of the Curaçao delegation, shared her enthusiasm for the dedication to her country – the third time Curaçao has been so honored – in statements to the Cuban News Agency. She emphasized that this opportunity will further strengthen cultural bonds and foster a sense of brotherhood between Curaçao and Cuba.

Orlando Vergés, Director of the Casa del Caribe and President of the Festival, announced that the event is expected to draw some 300 researchers, promoters, and experts in traditional popular culture, along with over 150 representatives from Curaçao.
