Sculpture of Paul McCartney attracts visitors in Santiago de Cuba

Scores of visitors to the restaurant next to the San Pedro de la Roca del Morro Castle succumb in to temptation of taken a photo close together the ex-Beatle Paul McCartney who visited this place 18 years ago. 

Since several days, makes possible this gesture the placement of a statue which reproduces the British artist's image, very close to the precise place where he had lunch in that occasion together with his two children and with the Caribbean Sea and the Fortress, World heritage, as exceptional background. 

According to published notes and witness testimonies, McCartney arrived unexpectedly in the morning at the city airport, coming from an island of the region, and he went to the gastronomic picturesque place also humanity heritage, where he wrote in the distinguished guests book: hurray to the Revolution! 

The sculptural piece of natural size, performed by Mariano Frometa, also reproduces in a plaque the gratitude words of the famous musician with his name and the corresponding date. 

To the fame of this environment, distinguished since 1997 by UNESCO in its select world heritage list, it adds the stay of the ex-Beatle, immortalized by his work as singer, composer and instrumentalist in the legendary group, as well as for this sculpture made in marmoreal with a bronze patina. 

Reina Reyes, one of the establishment’s gastronomic, recalls that Friday when they received of an unexpected way to the world fame artist who behaved as any ordinary diner and he defended his privacy, a decision which was respected by the present workers. 

As vegetarian, the young girl said, he ate an omelet with cheese, served with a Mayabe beer, a delicious house cocktail, and chocolate ice cream like dessert. 

She remembers that he enjoyed a lot the Cuban music sang by the trio Romance, which usually make pleasant the treatment in the restaurant and just like the most of the working group of those days, she stays in that restaurant offering services.
