Sexual Education Congress Closes in Cuba

The 8th Cuban Congress on Sexual Education, Guidance and Therapy is closing, after intense days of debate dedicated to comprehensive sexuality teaching at schools.

Gathered at the Conference Center in Havana since June 27, specialists from Latin America, Europe and the United States debated on the importance of weighing up the school's responsibility as one of the major institutions in the community. Under the slogan 'For schools at the forefront for comprehensive sexuality education', this scientific event was suitable for strengthening and diversifying the goals and alliances of institutions committed to sex education at the service of society. Issues such as gender-based violence, masculinity seen from social imaginary, trans-identities and sexual rights, were debated in keynote speeches and panels. As part of the academic program of the event, the comprehensive education in childhood, adolescence and youth, sexual exploitation of children, as well as prostitution and human trafficking, were also under discussion. This 8th Cuban Congress of Sexual Education, Guidance and Therapy takes place in the context of the 30th anniversary of the National Sex Education Center, as well as the 25th anniversary of the first event of this kind in Cuba.
